Mildura Weather Insanity

June 30th, 2009 No comments

This dust storm brewed up pretty quickly. While I was out at Merbein I snapped a bit of footage on my N95 (still waiting for my 3GS) while sitting in my car.

Hottest 100 of all time

June 23rd, 2009 No comments

So, I thought I wouldn’t, but I went and picked my top 10 for Triple J’s Hottest 100 of all time. This wasn’t a long and difficult decision. Instead of agonizing about it for hours I picked the 10 songs off the top of my head that I love and can hear over and over again.

David Bowie – Starman
Split Enz – Six Months On A Leaky Boat
Sleepy Jackson, The – I Understand What You Want But I Just Don’t Agree
Beatles, The – Here Comes The Sun
Nine Inch Nails – All The Love In The World
Kate Bush – Wuthering Heights
Faith No More – I Started A Joke
Foo Fighters – Everlong
Tool – Eulogy
Rage Against the Machine – Killing In The Name

What about the rest of you? If I tried again I bet the list would be very very different. Anyways must dash, updating from my iPod touch curious to see how it works.

Fanboys and alcohol

June 20th, 2009 No comments

Last night was fun, if a little cold. Last time I went out, myself and another decided we’d set up a twitter meetup group or something. This weekend with me constantly going “come on! what we wanna do!” I got a handful of people out at the Sandbar in town and had many drinks. The twitter population of Mildura maybe small, but it’s always good to meet new friends anyway. Also saw an old friend and chatted to her a little bit, caught up. It’s good to see that she is doing well even if we don’t speak as much as we used to.

Apart from that? Work, today. Dad is coming up on Tuesday or so to give me some much deserved time off. I’ll probably spend it helping him anyways, but you know. Hah. The trip is coming up closer and closer, I have a little money saved a well, so including the holiday pay I’ll be receiving, I should be fine with bills etc when I return. There’s gadgets I want (of course!!) but I probably won’t start seriously thinking about them until I get back from my trip. Oh, If I get the iphone before then, that’s different, okay? πŸ˜›

I’m off to watch Fanboys, It’s almost up to a point where I can watch it on my Apple TV. πŸ™‚

Excercise – The experiment begins anew…

June 18th, 2009 No comments

Long ago last year I discovered another interesting tech gizmo which I was interested in. The catch though? It’s Nike Plus

Unfortunately, I’m a lazy bastardo. So today armed with my trusty Ipod touch which for some reason includes support and the Iphone doesn’t (not until the 3Gs) I went for another walk. I armed up the trusty ipod with trance from a few podcasts I discovered (Tiesto) I hooked it up and walked about 4 kilometres today. Came back, all happy and proud of my acheivement and went to sync it up with my Itunes and The Nike Plus website.

No Dice.

Ripping my hair out, trying to figure what the hell is happening with this POS. I DON’T think it’s the ipod, or Itunes. I’m 90% sure it’s the website. So from now on, whenever I’m walking, I’m just going to put it as an entry on my blog here. I’ll gather them all in a subsection so I can look back and all that. I really want to make something of it this time. It’s not that I’m hugely obese or something like that, I just know I be healthier and perhaps even lose my beer belly I’ve had for a long time. Here’s hoping.

Fullmetal Alchemist – Brotherhood (A Review)

Full Metal Alchemist – Brotherhood

FMA – Brotherhood is the newest version of the anime classic. The original TV series and the manga are very different. Instead of having “filler” episodes of the show and waiting for the manga to catch up, the creators of the TV show got the original ideas from the manga and took it in their own directions. So instead of having thousands of episodes and annoying fans (Bleach, anyone?), they made 52 episodes of a really good show, which I think is the best anime since Evangelion (big call, I know).

Now the manga is over, the anime has returned to our tv, not as a sequel or continuation of the original series, but based on the manga instead. I’ve only seen the first two episodes so far, so I don’t see too much difference as of yet (the origins still are the same). We’re introduced to Edward, Al and the Army in a different way. The characters are still the same – Ed still loses his cool over digs on his height, Armstrong still loves himself and Hughes still can’t help showing off his kids as usual. As the second episode ends, we see the brothers heading to Lior, which also happened in the orginal series as well. There’s no old footage used, so no doubt there will be subtle differences this time around.

The two things I’ve noticed that differ with the new series –

The Military – This time around, we’re pretty early made away that all is not right within the Military, where the foul play in Ishbal was only really alluded to and not a big part of the storyline. Also King Bradley is introduced as a major character right into the first episode – It’s been a while but I’m pretty sure he wasn’t brought into the series until later..

The Flashback – The events surrounding the human transmutation are seen quickly in the opening moments of the original anime. In this episode it takes up a whole episode, the lead up etc. It makes a much darker moment and gets rid of the background/setup that took the original series quite a few episodes to slowly flesh out.

The art and sound are both top notch – up to today’s standards. There’s no CGI or anything like that added into scenes, and that suits me fine. It’s been a while seen I’ve seen the original, but it sounds very much like the two original voice actors who did Ed and Al before. It’s certainly Al, I know that much.

There’s only 11 or so episodes out in Japan at the moment, so it’s still very much in the fansubbing stage. Unknown when it will get a DVD release (won’t be for a while, I’m guessing) but you can see some episodes up on the Madman site here for Australians and of course, Hulu for Americans. I like it so far and will continue to watch. I have not read the manga version so this story once it gets going will be a pleasant surprise.

It’s alive!!

June 15th, 2009 No comments

It’s been a hell of a long time, but the website is back and running.

Why? Well I went to a proper wordpress hosted dot org. Reasons? I like being able to mess around with it. This is going to take some time I think, as it’s not as easy as I believed it would be. This is going to take some time, which I do not have tonight. But anyways. It’s looking pretty and all, and it’s semi-working. Thought I’d do a quick update of some sort.

How are you all going anyways?? I’ve been working straight for the last few months, the boss (Dad) has been down for the count from a nasty burns accident. He’s doing fine now, but it’s taken him some time to get back into the swing of things. It’s not too bad, I wish for a weekend off occasionally, but other than that it’s not too bad. Saving up anyways for my August trip and whatever other gadget tickles my fancy. I know I’m going to get the new Iphone, THIS was the update I was waiting for. The vid, the (hopefully) better camera life and MMS as well. The skypephone does the job, but it’s only a 200 dollar phone.

Apart from that? Some of my oldest and best friends just had a baby back in Broken Hill. I cant wait to get back to the Hill and catch up with them. And it will be good to see the old town. Every now and again believe it or not I DO miss the place.

Anyways, time to log off, nearly time for bed. I shall see if the plugins work and this auto updates to LJ and twitter. Hah.

Please let me know what you all have been up to as well..

Terry
