Oh, my pretty iPhone 4S :P

October 30th, 2011 No comments

Bit the bullet and bought the new iPhone 4s. It’s a gorgeous little piece of tech. No, I didn’t own a 4. If i did I wouldn’t have bothered updating. I was still on a 3GS. the 4 – 4S is too little of an upgrade. I already own a nice, proper lumix point and shoot for actual photography, although it’s handy to have a phone in my pocket all of the time with the ability to shoot photos in the dark now. The ol’ 3GS is still going strong though, I recently bought a mophie juice pack for the thing, and there was no way in hell that i was going to throw that phone out. So that’s my new work phone. The lld Nokia N95 was getting very old in the tooth and was finally retired. So no travelling or holidays any time soon while I pay off my phone, new mophie pack and a bluetooth car kit. I’m fully peeked out when it comes to my phones now. Carrying two phones in my pocket? No, It’s not that I’m happy to see you. Honestly. πŸ™‚

What else? Oh, I’m finally catching up with Pan Am. Still loving that show. Gives me the travel bug, though. Makes me want to jump on a plane and go adventuring… Oh hang on a sec, we can’t! πŸ˜‰

instapaper and kindle

I wish someone told me about this sooner.

I used to go through moments where i would constantly go on my rss list, constantly checking, and then be busy. by the end of that week i would get so bogged down I’d end up just dumping it all by hitting “read all” and regoing. And the “read later” option is handy, but let’s be honest, when we get home or finish work, we dont want to be sitting in front of the screens any more than we have to. and reading on the ipad isnt that bad, but still glarey, and also I have to be careful with the battery life on the ipad. Sounds funny, but I use it a fair bit during work days and mucking around with too many apps may lead me into trouble if I get a job by days end.. (I’m eventually getting an external battery charger for this very reason, but I just bought a 4S, so it will have to wait..)

I bought the kindle on a whim one drunk Friday night. It was late, they just dropped the price on the 3 models and I thought “what the hell??”. Love the little thing, so much easier to buy a book on there, and whip it out when you have a spare minute to yourself on the road, or eating lunch or whatever. The battery life on this baby isn’t as bad as a normal smartphone. I could take it away with me, turn off wifi and be happy it would last pretty much all weekend.
Someone on my twitter list commented on the “export to kindle” option on the instapaper website.
Oh nice… πŸ™‚

All the article I’ve been meaning to read are now in little kindle digests where I can read whenever I feel like it. The formatting isn’t perfect, but that’s more of the websites faults. Sure saves me at the end of a night when I really don’t have the willpower to get stuck into one of my novels again.. πŸ™‚

Phoenix Jones or kick ass part 2

October 13th, 2011 No comments

Okay, I have to make a proper blog of this cause it’s just far too interesting.

Apparently, there’s a “superhero” group in the Seattle area who fight crime on the streets, much like a very cool film “Kick Ass”.

There’s footage online of a recent event, where he’s breaking up a fight, calling 911 (of course, 911 get there waaaay too late) and this guy is arrested. He says (like you can (kinda) see on film) that he was trying to protect a guy getting a kicking, the friends are screaming “unwarranted attack”, as they were only “dancing” (yeah right).

Phoenix Jones Stops Assault from Ryan McNamee on Vimeo.

Here’s the news report about it as well –

Didn’t realise someone would honestly have the guts to try something like this out on the streets. He says it’s been a lifelong dream, but I still wonder that certain film got him finally doing something like this…

I have an admission to make

… I’m still watching Terra Nova.

By all means, I should hate this show. It’s one of THE most cliched, predictable shows i’ve seen in a hell of a long time. We’re a week behind in Australia (and it’s not Doctor Who, so I’m okay with waiting) and we have mystery predators and a jealous husband over the wife’s ex boyfriend who happens to be back in time as well! How convenient! Including the Wesley Crusher type daughter, the family is so predictable, you know the ex boyfriend is not going to be an issue by episode’s end.

Hey, I’ve fallen in love with some of the best TV. The best Scifi. Ds9, B5, non scifi like deadwood. You know what I mean. Complex shows, shows that don’t just tick buttons to get the viewers watching. Shows which aren’t just made for the masses.

What’s making me come back, then? Damn that power over me.
