Hello new apple tv

March 28th, 2012 No comments

As a delayed birthday present, I got myself the newest 1080 apple tv. As you can see from the photo, there’s a drastic size difference between the two. Why? Apart from the space saving, it’s handy to have the Netflix option on more than one piece of tech in the house (and it’s a hell of a lot easier to unplug and move the apple tv than it is the Xbox 360).

Probably the killer choice for me is the AirPlay mirroring. People are still asking “when are apps coming to this?” and until then, it’s easy enough to open up something on your iPhone/iPad and push it to the apple tv. Live streams like abc news 24, twit tv, al jazeera English. Even some apps are supported – iview, bbc’s iplayer. It’s such a handy option I’m genuinely thinking about later on down the track buying a cheap tv for my bedroom and just attaching another atv to its side. Sure, I won’t have free to air, but it’s very uncommon for me to have standard tv on anyways, and on the rare occasions I do watch normal tv I’m only a hop, skip and a jump away from other units.

For quite some time I was trawling the web for video transmitting hardware for this very problem (hello slingbox. How did that Australian launch go? Still haven’t seen a single unit over here…), I think I’ve found the solution right here. Now to save the pennies…. My dream home would have one of these and a sonos unit in every room 🙂

I love Quantic Dream. They’re a game developer company who keeps games interesting – they released the PS3 exclusive “Heavy Rain” a few years back – an almost interactive horror/thriller movie which truly gives you the choice about how the game ends. (Hurry up with the film!). Here’s a short film they’ve made which is completely rendered on the ps3 – not a new game, but using a new gaming engine that will run their next game. Beautiful little film, and it’s got a Asimov / Ghost in the Shell vibe as well. Worth a watch 🙂

Adele vs Daft Punk mashup

Pretty smoooooth mashup between Adele and Daft Punk. Not a huge Adele fan, but this really suits her. And give her some collaborations – I’d probably listen more to her music, she’s got an amazing voice…
